I have UHC coverage, which has 100% coverage for routine blood work. Imagine how surprised I was to have to provide a debit or credit card "just in case" the insurance company does not cover. Needless to say, I followed up with my employer's HR Dept. It was confirmed my insurance DOES cover routine blood work 100%. What would happen to patients who do not have a credit/debit card or the financial means to "pay upfront" for something our insurance covers 100%? This practice concerns me. I will also make mention of my concerns to the Insurance Committee when employees consider potential insurance policies and aligned providers.
