So I opened an account at BBVA compass bank online and after being "approved" for a checking account it, the website, stated that I had to go inside a branch and pay to open the account. $50 minimum was required.
It took me about 3 days to find the time to go inside the local branch at Corona, Ca. I went in there and it seemed to be a pleasant experience at first. The lady that helped me did say that she "had to cancel" the account I applied for online due to some system error, that is a very broad and commonly used term and excuse by companies these days! Anyhow, I said it would be fine to cancel it but I wanted only a checking account. She said that it is fine. She also said that there was a program and gave you a FREE savings, what a bunch of BS, but I said ok and took the FREE checking to leave. I gave her $50.01 and she deposited in the account. Then she said I could "automatically" deposit $25 a month to my savings from my checking. I said I didnt want it. Anyhow she pushed it onto me. So I took it. I left the bank and when I got home, I called the branch and said I didnt want the $25 automatic deposit from my checking and they said that is fine and to call customer service, And I did that.
I lost my job and income about 1 month later. The bank kept sending me bank statements and other paperwork, So I called the customer service and said what is going on with my bank account. He told me that I had 4 accounts, I told him I did not have 4 accounts. He stated that I was NEGATIVE $150.00 on one of my accounts in ALL FEES. I asked why, he stated that the person at the branch NEVER CANCELED MY ACCOUNT, AND THAT EVERY MONTH THE BANK WAS TRYING TO PULL $25 FROM MY ACCOUNT AND WHEN IT WASN'T THERE, THEY CHARGED ME A FEE....wow. I never got that money, so who did, the bank!
One day I opened the statement and it said I had $50.01 in the checking account. So I went into the bank to get the money, this was around 10-18-2013, The lady at the counter said ok, but she had to wait for another lady to get back. I think she said the supervisor. Anyhow she said to wait for 20 minutes or go and come back. I did as she asked, When I got back the lady that came to help me was the SAME lady that opened my account. She took me to her office and said "You can not get your $50.01 because your other account is $150 overdrawn...I smirked and said I never took any money from the bank, why do I even have an account that is open and overdrawn, she said "bank police, sorry".
So the bank TOOK, STOLE $50.01 of my hard earned money and kept it, I NEVER wrote one check, Never took money or did anything with my account, the bank just took my money...... I hope that attorney general can get my $50.01 back for me.....
